An explosion occurred in a residential building in the German city of Cologne early Wednesday morning, causing significant damage to a ground-floor café.
According to police reports, the blast, which was followed by a fire, left two residents with minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.
Residents of the Bisch neighborhood reported hearing a loud explosion just before 3:00 AM, followed by the sight of flames engulfing the café and shattering nearby windows.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire, but the café sustained extensive damage.
Though no one was directly injured by the explosion itself, the building was evacuated as a precaution. Once the fire was under control, residents were allowed to return to their apartments.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
