Two earthquakes have struck northeastern Afghanistan, according to the US Geological Survey, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The first quake measured 5.3 in magnitude and occurred at a depth of about 199 kilometers. It was located about 27 kilometers south of Jurm in Badakhshan province, a region known for frequent seismic activity.
A second earthquake followed shortly after, registering a magnitude of 4.5 at a depth of around 186 kilometers, approximately 34 kilometers from Jurm.
Afghanistan is highly prone to earthquakes due to its position along major tectonic fault lines, particularly in mountainous northeastern regions such as Badakhshan.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, with no significant impact reported so far.
