Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have struck Indonesia’s tourist island of Bali, leaving two people dead and two others missing, authorities said Sunday.

The flooding began late Friday in the Buleleng area after intense rains hit the region, according to the National Disaster Management Agency.

Strong flood currents swept away eight people during the incident. Rescue teams later recovered the bodies of two victims on Saturday, while two others remain missing.

Search and rescue operations are continuing as emergency teams work to locate the missing individuals.

The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency warned that Bali could experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds over the next two days.

Officials cautioned that the severe weather could increase the risk of further flooding and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas and river basins across the island.
