Severe flooding in Oklahoma has claimed the lives of two people, including a 12-year-old boy, as meteorologists warn of more dangerous weather stretching from the Midwest to the South.

The deaths occurred over the weekend in the city of Moore, just 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Oklahoma City, where torrential rains triggered widespread flooding and emergency incidents.

According to local police, heavy rainfall overwhelmed the region on Saturday night, leading to dozens of reports involving submerged vehicles and stranded residents. In one tragic incident, two vehicles became trapped in rising floodwaters.

One of the cars was swept beneath a bridge, and despite rescue efforts, the bodies of a woman and a young boy were later discovered.

The city, home to about 63,000 residents, experienced some of the worst flooding in recent memory.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued flood warnings and severe thunderstorm alerts across large parts of Oklahoma, with further warnings extending into Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, and southern Illinois.

Forecasters are closely monitoring a massive storm system sweeping from the Southern Plains into the Upper Midwest, bringing with it the threat of intense rainfall, severe thunderstorms, and potentially tornadoes.

Meteorologists predict that the storm will continue to deliver heavy rain and possible tornadic activity in regions of Arkansas and Missouri over the next 24 hours.

The evolving weather pattern could pose further danger to already saturated areas, increasing the risk of flash flooding and storm-related casualties.

Residents in the affected states are urged to remain alert, follow official safety guidelines, and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions as the storm system moves eastward.
