Two people were killed, and nine others were injured in a collision involving dozens of vehicles along a fog-covered road in Southern California.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the collision, which involved 35 vehicles, occurred on Saturday west of Bakersfield, leading to the closure of the road for 24 hours, according to authorities.
Jim Calhoun, a spokesperson for the Kern County Fire Department, told reporters that visibility was reduced to about three meters when rescue teams arrived at the "chaotic" scene.
The accident spanned around 800 meters and involved 17 passenger cars and 18 large vehicles.
Authorities announced that two people died at the scene, while nine others were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
