Two people were killed and more than 60 injured following a collision at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, according to preliminary reports.
The incident involved a plane operated by Air Canada Express and a fire truck as both were moving along the runway. Early information indicates the aircraft was arriving from Montreal and was in the landing phase when the emergency vehicle entered the runway without clearance, leading to the crash.
Air traffic control recordings reportedly captured urgent warnings instructing the truck driver to stop moments before the collision, but the impact occurred shortly afterward.
Injuries were reported among passengers and crew on board the aircraft, as well as five emergency personnel inside the fire vehicle. Evacuation procedures were carried out immediately, with first responders providing on-site medical assistance.
Following the incident, authorities temporarily shut down the airport and diverted flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Emergency teams continued to contain the fire and secure the area as officials prepared to launch a full investigation into the cause of the collision.
