Two people have been killed, and ten others injured in a shooting during a popular military-style parade in New Orleans on Sunday, according to local police.

The incident occurred during the annual “Second Line” parade, a beloved tradition in the city’s African-American community.

At a press conference on Sunday evening, parade supervisor Ann Kirkpatrick stated that there were two separate shooting incidents, with a 45-minute gap between them.

Around 45 minutes after the first shooting, a second burst of gunfire erupted in the crowd during the parade’s second-line procession.

Police later confirmed that three more people were injured in this second incident. Tragically, two individuals died from gunshot wounds in the second shooting, and another is in critical condition.

Authorities have stated that it remains unclear whether the two shootings are connected, given the time lapse between the incidents.

The “second line” parades are a cherished tradition in New Orleans, especially within the city's African-American community. These informal, community-led processions often feature vibrant brass bands and are typically organized by social aid and pleasure clubs.

The “second line” follows the main parade, known as the "first line," and is a deeply rooted cultural expression that has been celebrated for generations in the city.
