The first case of the new bird flu in a human being has been detected in Colorado, US, state health officials reported on Thursday.

Aged 40 years old, the patient is an old man who was working on a farm with infected poultry, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), said in a statement.

He is now isolated and receiving the influenza drug known as Tamiflu; he is under the observation of the CDC.

According to the center, there are no other known cases of the H5N1 variant emerging, in addition, no more workers on the same farm have tested positive for the virus.

State epidemiologist Rachel Herlihy said: "We want to reassure Coloradans that the risk to them is low,", adding: "I am grateful for the seamless collaboration between CDC, Department of Corrections, Department of Agriculture, and CDPHE, as we continue to monitor this virus and protect all Coloradans."

The earliest H5N1 human case was detected in December 2021.

China announced the detection of a new bird flu infection, H5N6, in a human in Huizhou, Guangdong.

According to a statement released by the authorities, the percentage of infection is somehow low currently.

However, experts urged all citizens to strictly follow all protective measures, such as avoiding visiting markets that have places for trading alive poultries as a surge in H5N6 and H9N2 infections is expected in winter and spring in China.
