Dongola International Airport in Sudan’s Northern State received its first humanitarian aid plane on Sunday. Abdul Rahman Ali Khairi, Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid for the Northern State, confirmed that this initial flight serves as a trial for what is expected to become a regular weekly schedule of humanitarian aid deliveries via this key air gateway.
The launch of aid flights through Dongola Airport marks a critical step in Sudan’s efforts to streamline relief delivery to displaced and affected populations. This development comes following the approval from Sudanese government bodies, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, to operate Dongola Airport for humanitarian purposes.
Located in Sudan’s Northern State, Dongola International Airport was recently reopened after significant renovations aimed at enhancing the airport’s infrastructure. This improvement underscores its growing role as an essential hub for air transport and humanitarian logistics in the region.
The introduction of regular aid flights is anticipated to strengthen the region’s capacity for rapid response to humanitarian needs and boost the overall air transport network in Sudan, which is vital for sustaining ongoing relief operations across affected areas.
