1st Egyptian-Chinese Joint Lab for Renewable Energy Opens in Sohag

Egypt Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Military Production Minister Dr. Mohamed Al Assar, and Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) President Dr. Mahmoud Sakr inaugurated the 1st Egyptian-Chinese Joint Laboratory for Renewable energy in Sohag.

The lab is considered an experimental plant for research, development and innovation in the field of solar cells. It came as an implementation of the agreement signed between Egypt and China in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during his first visit to China in December 2014.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Sohag governor, Tong Wei, Chinese Cultural Counselor, Hani Selim, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Chairman of China Electronics Technology Research Institute, as well as representatives from electricity, local development, planning, agriculture ministries, in addition to a galaxy of scientists, and researchers.

Noteworthy, the implementation agreement of the project was signed between ASRT and China Electronics Technology Research Institute in August 2015. It was agreed to implement the project in three phases. The first phase for solar energy, the second for bioenergy and third for wind energy.

Egyptian research institutions provided EGP 30 mn towards the facility while the Chinese Ministry of Scientific Research contributed USD 750k.
