Canadian mining company Aton Resources announced that it has obtained a license to extract gold in Egypt.

Aton said in a recent statement that the Egyptian authorities agreed to their request to obtain a license to exploit the "Hamama" and exploration areas in the "Abu Marawat" concession in Nubia, southern Egypt.

The company's CEO, Mark W. Campbell, said that the license to renew the ATON, which represents the second license in Egypt after mining company Centamin, is a historic step for the company.

"We are very excited to announce the new license, which is the culmination of our work over the past 10 years," Campbell added.

He pointed out that the license grants "Aton" a period of work less than 20 years, with an option period to add only 10 more years, yet, it allows the development of the "Hamama" mine and further exploration in "Rodruin" within the "Abu Marawat" concession.

He stressed, that the company is looking forward to obtain more exploration lands inside Egypt.

The "Abu Marawat" area is located in the Nubia region, about 200 km north of the world-classified gold mine, Sukari.

The Canadian company holds two mineral concessions, Abu Marawat covering an area of 1,027 square kilometers and the Fatiri covering an area of 1,745 square kilometers. The Abu Marawat Concession was previously controlled by Centamin and is located in an area with excellent infrastructure, near to railway, seaport, high tension electricity grid and major cities like Qena and Safaga.
