South African authorities have announced the evacuation of 198 homes in Cape Town due to a massive fire that erupted around Table Mountain.

As a precautionary measure, Disaster Risk Management assisted in evacuating 198 homes in Noordhoek Manor, which included 48 residents from care facilities. Residents of Barnyard and Silwersten also opted to evacuate, as mentioned by Jermaine Carlisle, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service.

According to Africa News, the fire caused significant damage in several hard-to-reach areas of the mountain, leading the municipality to advise hundreds of families to leave their homes for safety reasons.

Currently, at least 100 firefighters are engaged in combating the flames across five fronts, with evacuation orders extended to Steenberg Estate and Noordhoek Manor. Carlisle noted that the fires broke out last Friday in an area known as Tokai, and by Monday morning, there had been no new flare-ups reported.
