Nearly 18 percent of fuel stations across France are experiencing shortages of at least one type of fuel, according to Maud Bregeon, the country’s Minister Delegate for Energy.
Speaking in an interview with BFM TV on Tuesday, Bregeon said the shortages are affecting a notable share of stations nationwide, raising concerns among consumers and transport sectors.
She attributed the disruption in part to pricing strategies adopted by TotalEnergies, which has capped retail fuel prices below those of competing brands. This pricing policy has led to increased demand at TotalEnergies stations, creating localized supply pressures.
However, the minister emphasized that the situation does not reflect a broader national fuel crisis. Instead, she described it as a logistical issue driven by shifts in demand rather than a structural shortage in overall supply.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as efforts continue to stabilize distribution and ensure consistent fuel availability across the country.
