Eighteen people are missing, and several are feared dead after a massive explosion destroyed a military explosives plant in Tennessee on Friday morning.
The blast took place at Accurate Energetic Systems, about 100 kilometres west of Nashville, causing significant damage and multiple casualties. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of deaths.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the incident as one of the most devastating of his career, noting that determining the cause will take time. Investigators from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are currently on site.
The building was completely levelled, leaving nothing but debris and ash scattered across the surrounding area. Aerial footage shared by CNN showed the site flattened, with wreckage covering a nearby car park.
Authorities initially reported 19 people missing, but local media later confirmed that one person was found safe at home.
