A tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, a boarding primary school in central Kenya, has claimed the lives of 17 students.
The incident occurred in Nyeri, where the blaze was so intense that it has made it difficult to identify the victims.
According to local authorities, additional rescue teams are en route to the scene. The fire has also resulted in injuries to 14 students.
The Kenyan Red Cross has reported that a security perimeter has been established around the school.
Kenyan President William Ruto has called for a comprehensive investigation into the fire and has emphasized that those responsible will be held accountable.
This incident is part of a disturbing pattern of school fires in Kenya, many of which are deliberately set.
Past incidents include a fire in September 2017 at a Nairobi school that resulted in the deaths of nine students.
Another fire in 2001 at Kyanguli Secondary School near Nairobi killed 58 students, while a 2012 fire in Homa Bay County claimed the lives of eight students.
