President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid an official visit to Athens, Greece, where he held bilateral talks with Greek counterpart, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday.

Sakellaropoulou awarded the Egyptian president the highest and oldest medal in Greece, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The Medal for Gallantry is the highest military award of Greece. It was instituted in 1974. The Cross of Valour is the second highest (and until 1974 the highest) military decoration of the Greek state, awarded for acts of bravery or distinguished leadership on the field of battle.

On his part, the Egyptian president awarded his Greece counterpart the Order of the Nile, dubbed as Kiladat El Nil,” Rady said.

An official reception ceremony was held, the honor guard was displayed, and the national anthems were played.

The Egyptian Spokesman stated that Sisi held extensive discussions with the Greek President, in the presence of the delegations of the two countries.

Sisi expressed Egypt’s aspiration to deepen and strengthen bilateral relations, especially at the economic and commercial levels, by maximizing the volume of Greek investments in Egypt.
