Seventeen civilians, including three children and two women, were killed in attacks carried out by rebels from the "Allied Democratic Forces" (ADF), affiliated with the ISIS organization, targeting the villages of Nakota, Nyongu, and Wisa in the Mamabasa province of northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Mamabasa Civil Society Coordination reported that among the victims, 11 were burned alive after the rebels trapped them in a store and set it on fire, according to local newspapers today.

The coordination added that ADF elements also abducted four other civilians as hostages, looted properties, and set several houses on fire, especially in the village of Wisa, leading to the displacement of many residents to neighboring villages.

John Folivirio, head of the Mamabasa Civil Society Coordination, stated that the ADF militias have established two major bases in the forest of the neighboring northern Kivu province and are conducting their criminal activities "without hindrance," urging authorities in Kinshasa to deploy army forces in the areas where the attacks occurred to deter these militias.

Meanwhile, residents of Nyaibondo city in the Masise province, part of the northern Kivu province in the east of the country, have begun evacuating their homes in anticipation of flooding from the Lwashi River, which has risen in recent days.

According to local officials in the city, residents have evacuated their homes to protect themselves from potential damage related to the flooding of this river that passes through the city, where destructive floods are often reported in June each year in the Nyaibondo area.
