Severe flooding, landslides, and thunderstorms across parts of Afghanistan have killed at least 17 people and injured 26 others in the past 24 hours, authorities said Sunday.
According to Yousuf Hamed, the death toll is expected to rise as emergency teams continue assessing the hardest-hit areas.
The extreme weather has impacted 13 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, mainly in the western, central, and northwestern regions of the country.
Officials said the disasters also caused widespread damage, destroying 147 homes either partially or completely, and leaving roads damaged or impassable.
