17 Killed, 40 Injured in Philippine Military Plane Crash

At least 17 people were killed and 40 others were injured, on Sunday, when a Philippine Air Force plane crashed on Jolo island in the country's southwest, according to Philippine Defense Minister Delfin Lorenzana.

CNN Philippines reported that a C-130 plane crashed during landing at Jolo Airport at noon (07:00 Moscow Time). "So far, 40 wounded and injured people have been rescued, and 17 bodies have been discovered. The search and rescue operation is still underway."

According to Lorenzana, there were 92 persons on board, including three pilots and five crew members.

The plane was carrying troops from the city of Cagayan de Oro in the province of Cagayan de Oro.

According to the Philippine Air Force, the plane missed the runway during landing and crashed into a nearby town, igniting a fire. The fire department has arrived on the site.
