At least 16 Nigerien soldiers were killed and 23 others injured in an armed attack targeting a defense and security unit in the Téra region of western Niger, near the borders with Mali and Burkina Faso.
According to Niger's Defense Ministry, government forces killed 15 militants during the clash. The ministry said a rapid military response, backed by air support, forced the attackers to retreat.
Security forces are continuing search and clearance operations across the area following the attack.
