Sixteen people, most of them students, were injured on Tuesday in a shooting at a technical high school in Sanliurfa Province, according to officials.

Governor Hasan Sildak confirmed after visiting the scene that twelve of the injured are currently receiving medical treatment, while the conditions of the remaining victims have not been fully disclosed.

He stated that the attacker, a former student born in 2007, died after shooting himself following the incident.

According to Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, the injured include ten high school students and four teachers, though no further details on their health status were provided.

Reports from Dogan News Agency indicated that the attacker was armed with a hunting rifle.

Local media footage showed students fleeing the school in panic, while heavy police presence, including armored vehicles and ambulances, surrounded the area.

A witness told Ihlas News Agency that the attacker initially opened fire randomly in the schoolyard before entering the building and continuing the shooting.

Such incidents remain relatively rare in Turkey, despite the widespread presence of firearms, many of which are believed to be unlicensed.
