At least 16 COVID-19 patients and two health workers were killed in a fire erupted in a hospital in Bharuch, India, local authorities announced on Saturday.
The fire started in midnight in the unite of the intensive care of Patel Welfare Hospital that dedicated to COVID-19 patients.

Bharuch Police Department stated: "Sixteen patients and two staff members have died in the fire. Twelve of them died due to fire and smoke.”
It added: "Preliminary investigation shows the fire was caused because of a short circuit.”

The posted videos of the fire showed that the hospital was totally destroyed, therefore, this incident was considered as the latest deadliest hospital incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the incident, tweeting "pained by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Bharuch.”
