Nearly 150,000 protesters gathered in Seoul's Yeouido district near the National Assembly, demanding the resignation of South Korea’s president, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Organizers, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, claim the turnout reached one million.
Simultaneously, a counter-protest led by conservative groups supporting the president occurred near Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul.
Official estimates suggest 20,000 participants, though organizers assert their rally also drew one million supporters.
These protests come ahead of a critical parliamentary vote on December 7 to decide on the president's impeachment.
A two-thirds majority, or 200 votes, is required for the motion to pass. The ruling party, holding 108 of 300 seats, has vowed to boycott the vote.
Adding to the political tension, a proposed investigation into the first lady over alleged corruption was recently blocked in parliament.
