Fifteen civilians were killed and several others injured in a series of terrorist attacks over the weekend in the Tillabéri region of western Niger, near the border with Burkina Faso, according to a statement released by the Nigerien military on Wednesday evening.
The military's statement reported that "in the Mihana area, several brutal acts of violence were committed by terrorist elements against unarmed civilians, resulting in devastating and tragic losses: 14 people were killed and many others were injured."
The statement did not specify the exact date of the attacks.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, the military confirmed that another civilian was killed and three others were injured during a clash with terrorists in the same region.
