At least 15 people were killed on Friday after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine on a highway in western Guatemala, according to local rescue services.
Volunteer firefighters said the bus fell into a ravine around 75 meters deep for reasons that remain under investigation. Emergency crews confirmed that about 20 injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rescue officials reported that the victims included 11 men, three women, and one minor. The crash occurred on a major roadway, raising renewed concerns over road safety in the country.
Deadly traffic accidents are frequent in Guatemala, where poor road conditions, ageing vehicles, and limited enforcement contribute to recurring tragedies.
In February, a similar incident on the northern outskirts of Guatemala City claimed 54 lives when a bus crashed into a ravine.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the latest accident.
