The Senegalese authorities found at least 14 bodies off the coast of the capital, Dakar, in a new tragedy facing Senegal on the migration route linking West Africa and the Spanish Canary Islands.
"They are migrants," Samba Kanji, the city's deputy mayor in charge of the Wakkam district, told AFP.
And the correspondent of the French Press Agency reported that members of the gendarmerie and firefighters continued, during the past hours, rescue operations in search of other bodies on the beach in this neighborhood located in the city near a mosque.
“The navy forced the boat to anchor and the people on board jumped into the sea,” Kanji told AFP a few minutes later.
At least 13 Senegalese migrants died in a boat sinking off the coast of Morocco about a week ago.
