A tragic bus accident in southern Algeria left 14 people dead and 34 injured on Saturday, according to a statement from the civil protection authority.
Local media published images showing the long-distance passenger bus overturned on its roof beside a road in the town of Tabelbala, around 400 kilometers south of Béchar.
Authorities said the vehicle veered off the highway linking Béchar and Tindouf in the far south before overturning. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
The incident is Algeria’s deadliest road accident since August, when a bus plunged into a ravine near the capital, killing 18 people.
