Airlines in the United States canceled 1,300 flights on Monday as Tropical Storm Beryl intensified into a hurricane, approaching the Texas coast.

According to data from FlightAware, a flight tracking website, a total of 1,331 flights were canceled and 505 flights were delayed as of 6:06 AM Eastern Time.

United Airlines led the cancellations with 406 flights, followed by Southwest Airlines with approximately 268 flights.

Both airlines issued warnings to travelers about the expected impact of Hurricane Beryl on flights at airports in Austin, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Houston, and other areas in the region. Passengers are advised to check their flight status and prepare for potential delays and cancellations.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Beryl, which has already caused significant destruction and at least 11 fatalities in the Caribbean, has strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. It is expected to reach Category 2 strength as it makes landfall later today.

Travelers are urged to stay updated on weather reports and heed advisories from airlines and local authorities. Safety measures should be taken seriously, especially for those in the projected path of the hurricane.
