On Thursday, a shocking incident took place at Weinmeisterhorn Primary School in Berlin's Spandau district when an 11-year-old student was seriously injured in a knife attack by a 13-year-old classmate.
The attack occurred around 11:30 am during school hours. The victim was immediately transported to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
As of the latest reports, the child's condition is stable.
Following the incident, the 13-year-old suspect escaped from the scene. A widespread search by helicopters and canine units was conducted.
Approximately 24 hours later, authorities located the suspect at the Altstadt Spandau subway station.
Due to his age, the suspect is not criminally liable under German law. He has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
After the incident, around 20 students received psychological support for trauma experienced during the incident.
Parents were also offered counseling services upon arriving at the school.
