A dark cloud has fallen over South Africa’s Gauteng province following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of 13 students on Monday morning. The tragedy occurred when a vehicle transporting learners collided with a truck in the Vanderbijlpark area.

The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed the heartbreaking news, noting that the information currently available is preliminary as investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.

President Ramaphosa Expresses Deep Sorrow President Cyril Ramaphosa released a statement expressing his profound sadness over the loss of young lives. "My deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the families, the students, and the entire school community affected by this devastating incident," the President said. He emphasized that the government is committed to working with local communities and organizations to improve road safety and protect the lives of citizens.

Psychosocial Support for Affected Families Authorities from both the national and provincial levels have pledged to provide immediate psychosocial and counseling support to the grieving families and the schools involved. Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng Education Department, described the event as an "extremely difficult time" for the province.

Road safety remains a critical concern in South Africa, and this latest tragedy has reignited calls for stricter regulations and increased vigilance on the roads, especially for vehicles transporting school children.
