At least 13 people were killed after a bus overturned overnight on a major highway linking Natanz and Isfahan in eastern Iran, according to local emergency officials.

The head of the emergency department in Isfahan said the deadly accident occurred late at night on the Natanz–Isfahan expressway, one of the main transport routes in central Iran. Initial reports from the scene confirmed that 11 other passengers were injured in the crash.

The incident took place on December 16, 2025, with emergency teams rushing to the scene to provide medical assistance and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. The cause of the crash has not yet been officially announced, and investigations are ongoing.

The Natanz–Isfahan highway is a key part of Iran’s road network, connecting the historic city of Isfahan with eastern areas such as Natanz, which is known for its mountainous terrain and sensitive nuclear facilities. Traffic accidents are a recurring concern on Iranian highways, particularly during night-time travel.

Authorities have urged drivers and transport companies to adhere strictly to safety regulations as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal bus accident.
