A shooting at a party in the northwestern part of Santiago resulted in five fatalities and seven injuries on Tuesday, according to Chilean authorities.
The authorities in Santiago confirmed that the deceased include four men and one woman.
Colonel Gabriel Villanueva of the police reported that the shooting occurred during an altercation at a gathering in the town of Lampa, located in the Santiago Metropolitan Region.
The majority of the attendees were foreigners, although their nationalities have not been specified.
President Gabriel Boric attributed the incident to organized crime in the country.
He addressed the media, expressing his deep concern: "This is extremely serious and deeply concerning. I want to make it very clear that in Chile, we will not allow organized crime to win this battle."
Chile is generally considered one of the safer countries in Latin America. However, between 2014 and 2023, the country saw a 60% increase in homicides, a 46% rise in sexual assaults, and an 11% increase in armed robberies, according to official reports.
