A shooting incident in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, located in northwestern Pakistan, has resulted in the deaths of 12 people and left 17 others injured, according to local police reports on Friday.

The incident is part of a troubling trend of increasing violence in the region, where security forces are struggling to maintain order.

Pakistani news outlet Geo News reported that, in response to the escalating violence, authorities have suspended mobile internet services and closed the main Peshawar-Parachinar highway.

This disruption has led to significant delays in trade, particularly with neighboring Afghanistan.

The situation remains tense in the Kurram area, where security forces are working to restore calm.

Local officials have yet to comment on the exact motives behind the shooting, but violence has been on the rise since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.

Many of the recent attacks have been concentrated in Pakistan’s border regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where insurgent groups have reportedly gained ground.
