Bangladesh is witnessing a sharp surge in dengue fever cases, with health officials reporting the highest single-day rise in both fatalities and hospital admissions this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, twelve people lost their lives while 740 new patients were admitted to hospitals due to the mosquito-borne infection.

So far in 2025, dengue fever has claimed at least 179 lives and infected nearly 42,000 people across the country.

Dengue fever symptoms include high fever, severe joint and muscle pain, headache, chills, itching, rash covering large areas of the skin, and swollen lymph nodes.

Bangladesh faced its worst-ever dengue outbreak in 2023, when the disease killed 1,705 people and infected more than 321,000 nationwide.
