12 Covid-19 cases have been discovered in the Comoros national team squad, including their three goalkeepers, before their round of 16 clash against Cameroon.
Comoros became the surprise of the tournament after beating Ghana 3-2 in the final group stage game, and advancing as one of the best third-placed sides, in their AFCON debut.
The Coelacanths are scheduled to face hosts and Group A leaders Cameroon on Monday in the round of 16, but were handed a huge blow ahead of the clash.
The Comoros national team general manager El Hadad Hamidi announced on Saturday in a video that five outfield players tested positive for Covid-19 including Nakibou Aboubakari, Yacine Bourhane, striker Mohamed M’Changama and defenders Kassim Abdallah and Alexis Souahy.
Two of the team’s goalkeepers also tested positive, while the third goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina is already out with an injury. Head coach Amir Abdou is also among those infected.
