French authorities have rescued 119 migrants attempting to cross the English Channel over the weekend, as dangerous journeys towards the United Kingdom continue despite tightened border measures.
The rescues took place during multiple operations on Saturday along northern France’s coastline, according to regional maritime authorities responsible for the area. Emergency teams intercepted several small boats carrying migrants attempting to reach British shores.
One migrant was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Boulogne-sur-Mer after being found unconscious. Officials said the individual required urgent medical treatment, though no further details were immediately released.
The incident comes days after the United Kingdom and France signed a new three-year agreement aimed at curbing irregular Channel crossings. Under the deal, London has increased its financial support for French operations targeting human smuggling networks and preventing departures.
Despite ongoing efforts, crossings remain a persistent challenge, with migrants continuing to risk the hazardous route in search of asylum or better opportunities in Britain.
