11 Killed in Attack on Football Field in Mexico

At least 11 people were killed and 12 others injured on Sunday after an armed attack on a football field in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico, according to local authorities.

The shooting took place in a neighborhood of the city of Salamanca, where municipal officials said a security operation was launched to track down those responsible for the attack.

Local authorities confirmed that 10 victims died at the scene, while an eleventh person later died in hospital after receiving medical treatment. Twelve others were wounded by gunfire and remain under medical care.

Guanajuato has been one of the Mexican states most affected by violent crime in recent years, driven largely by clashes between organized criminal groups. Attacks on public spaces have raised growing concerns over security and public safety in the region.

Investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing, and officials have not yet announced any arrests.
