Israeli forces have conducted two new airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, bringing the total number to 11, according to media reports.
Jihad Saadeh, the director of Rafik Hariri Hospital in Lebanon, confirmed severe material damage to the hospital after it was hit by shrapnel from yesterday's Israeli missile strikes on the street where the hospital is located, leading to the collapse of three buildings.
The hospital suffered extensive damage including shattered solar panels and glass facades, and requires urgent maintenance.
During a press conference held today, Saadeh highlighted the hospital's resilience, noting its continued operation despite the surrounding devastation. He emphasized that Rafik Hariri Hospital remained the only functioning hospital in the suburb after other local hospitals were targeted.
Saadeh expressed hope that the international community would pressure for adherence to international conventions and stop the aggression on Lebanon, particularly targeting the healthcare sector.
The healthcare system in Lebanon, which adheres to international accreditation standards, has seen more than 50 health centers and over 150 ambulances destroyed, and 150 paramedics killed due to Israeli strikes.
The hospital hosts several international organizations, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the International Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders, making it one of the most critical healthcare facilities in the region.
The targeting of such facilities is prohibited under all international treaties and conventions.
