Eleven people were injured on Saturday after an accidental explosion struck a carnival float in the southwestern Swiss town of Chapelle, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. during a local carnival parade, when a tank connected to a confetti cannon mounted on the float suddenly exploded.
The device was designed to launch colored paper confetti as part of the festivities.
Switzerland’s public broadcaster SRF, citing Agence France-Presse, reported that the blast was accidental and caused by the air compressor operating the confetti cannon.
In an official statement, Swiss police confirmed that all 11 injured individuals received first aid at the scene before being transported to various regional hospitals for further treatment.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the severity of the injuries.
