Police in Oakland County, Michigan, reported that up to 10 people, including children, were injured in a shooting at a water park near Detroit on Saturday evening.
Authorities described the incident as a random act of violence.
The suspect in the shooting remains at large, though police believe he is cornered in a nearby house. The weapon used in the attack was found at the scene, according to Reuters.
Michael Bouchard, Oakland County Sheriff, stated in a press conference that a man exited a vehicle in front of Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills around 5 p.m. (9 p.m. GMT) and fired about 30 rounds from a 9mm semi-automatic Glock, reloading several times.
Initially, police reported that five people had been shot. It is not immediately clear if there were any fatalities.
Rochester Hills is located about 30 miles north of Detroit. The nearby town of Oxford, also in Oakland County, was the site of a 2021 school shooting where 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley killed four students and injured six others along with a teacher at Oxford High School.
Bouchard expressed shock over the recent incident, highlighting the community's recent history of tragedies.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer reacted to the shooting on social media platform X, expressing heartbreak over the events in Rochester Hills.
