Today Jun. 10, marks the 90th anniversary of Zahret El-Ola’s birthday. She was born in El-Mahala city in 1934 to a father who was a government employee and a mother of Turkish origin.
The legendary actress, who graced the Egyptian cinema with her art and beauty, El-Ola is sorely missed by millions of her fans. The classic actress of the bygone era was featured in some of the cinemas' seminal works and timeless classics such as 'Gahim ul-ghayra' (1953), 'Ana el hareb' (1963), 'Fi baitina rajul ' (1961), and 'Mawad gharam' (1956).
The late Egyptian star, born as Zahret El-Ola Mohamed Bakir Rasmy. She is known for appearing in over 120 films and acting in over 50 series.
While in school, she developed an interest in theater and made her public acting debut at a school concert.
The gorgeous actress enrolled in the institute of theater arts at Alexandria University in the 1950s.
After graduation, she made her acting debut in the play Children from poor families (1954), alongside the maven actor and filmmaker Youssif Wahaby.
El-Ola was married two times in her life; the first was to Egyptian actor Salah Zulfikar. Then to Egyptian director Hassan el-Seify and they over three decades had one daughter, the renowned director Manal el-Seify. Moreover, she is the famous Egyptian actor Ahmed Said Abdel Ghany’s aunt.
El-Ola is also known for joint collaborations and associations with legendary Egyptian actors like the late comedian Ismail Yassine, Abdel-Halim, and Farid Shawky.
In her last days, the star suffered a stroke, leaving her partially paralyzed and unable to walk and speak.
In 2013, she died at the age of 79 following a battle with a long illness.
