At least ten people have been killed and 41 others injured after a freight train collided with a double-decker bus at a railway crossing in Mexico State on Monday.
According to Mexico State’s Civil Protection coordinator, four of the injured remain in critical condition.
Surveillance footage showed the bus waiting at the crossing before moving forward, only to be struck from behind by the train, which dragged the vehicle several meters.
Videos circulating on social media revealed passengers managing to exit the bus unaided while bystanders rushed towards the wreckage to help other victims.
Authorities confirmed that the bus driver has been detained at the request of the local prosecutor’s office as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
