One person was killed and 7 others were injured in a gas explosion in a house in the Ottakring area in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
A statement by the Austrian police on Wednesday said that the dead man was the tenant of the apartment, a 47-year-old Serbian national. The security forces imposed a wide security cordon on the area.
The statement explained that the dead man threw objects from the window of his apartment into the street, fired gunshots and deliberately sabotaged the gas supply - according to the neighbors' confirmation - and the police arrived immediately with a large team of special forces and cordoned off a large area.
It pointed out that the motives for the incident are unknown, and the police tried to negotiate with this person, but they failed, which prompted them to storm the apartment.
