One person was killed and two others were injured when asingle-engine Piper PA 28 made an emergency landing in the New York, American “NBC” network reported.
The samll plane crashed while approaching Republic Airport in Farmingdale, New York, authorities said. It had taken off from Republic Airport in East Farmingdale with three people onboard, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot "issued a mayday signal and indicated there was smoke in the cockpit," Suffolk police said.
