A powerful explosion in a bar in Madrid on Saturday left one person dead and at least 25 injured, according to Spanish emergency services.
Authorities confirmed early Sunday that rescue teams had recovered the body of a man during overnight search operations in the Puente de Vallecas district. Four survivors were also pulled from the rubble alive.
Emergency officials reported that two of the injured remain in serious condition, while three others are classified as potentially serious.
The blast occurred at around 3 p.m. local time in the Mis Tesoros bar. Local media attributed the incident to a suspected gas leak, though the exact source has yet to be determined.
Carlos Marín, head of Madrid’s Fire Department, stated that investigations are ongoing to confirm the type of gas involved and the precise cause.
Deputy mayor Inmaculada Sanz said it was still too early to determine the full circumstances of the explosion, but confirmed that residents of nine adjoining housing units will be temporarily rehoused.
Fire officials have declared the building unstable, noting that while some upper apartments were spared, structural damage at the entrance has rendered access impossible.
