A tornado struck Dongming County in Shandong Province, eastern China, on Friday, resulting in one fatality and 79 injuries, according to local authorities.
The emergency management office in the county reported that the tornado hit the county seat as well as the towns of Caiyuanji and Shawo at about 2:30 PM.
The injured have been transported to hospitals for treatment, and investigations into the extent of the damage are ongoing.
Shandong's emergency management department noted that another tornado occurred in Yinan County last Thursday, although no injuries were reported from that event.
According to the National Climate Center, Shandong Province experiences an average of 1.5 tornadoes each year.
The recent tornadoes highlight the unpredictable nature of severe weather in the region, emphasizing the need for ongoing preparedness and emergency response measures.
