An ice cave collapse in Iceland has resulted in one fatality, with two individuals still missing and one seriously injured, according to police reports.
The incident occurred during a tour of the Breidamerkurjokull glacier, located in southeast Iceland, which extends from Vatnajökull into the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.
The collapse happened while a group of 25 tourists was exploring the glacier with a guide. Initial reports indicated that four people were trapped under the ice, with two rescued but seriously injured.
Authorities confirmed on Monday that one of the injured individuals has since died at the scene.
Search and rescue operations continue for the two remaining individuals, with two Coast Guard helicopters and multiple ambulances deployed to the location.
Rescue efforts are being hampered by challenging conditions, according to Icelandic broadcaster RUV.
Breidamerkurjokull is a prominent tourist destination, and this incident underscores the inherent risks associated with exploring such ice formations.
