Indian authorities have evacuated more than 1.2 million citizens living near the east coast as Cyclone Yas knocked the country on Wednesday morning, domestic media said on Thursday.
According to domestic reports, flight operations at Kolkata Airport have been suspended from 8:30 am to 7:45 pm.
Later on, the airport at Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state, was closed from 11 am on Monday.
In the same context, more than 1200 rescue shelters have been established.
The death toll in some of the Northwestern India provenances rose to at least 155 citizens Last week after several days of heavy rains triggered flash flooding caused by Cyclone Taukte that swamped Kolkata and Odisha’s residential areas.
Meanwhile, the neighboring states of Assam and Meghalaya have been warned of heavy rains due to the deadly storm.

On the other hand, officials in neighboring Bangladesh country, a regular target of the cyclone, expressed that they hope this time the lowland Delta state will be spared.
Notably, this Asian country frequently suffered some of the deadliest storms in history, including the 1970 storm, killing 500,000 people in modern-day Bangladesh.
Cyclones are actually becoming more frequent and serious in the northern Indian Ocean as climate change warms the ocean, according to scientists and meteorologists.
