Amr El Shalakani, chief health specialist at the World Bank, said that Egypt has a resilient health system that is able to withstand shocks and health crises, which was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic of coexistence and quick response to the crisis.

This came during his virtual speech at the second conference for Universal health coverage (UHC), which was launched on Wednesday by the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) in Ismailia governorate.

El Shalakani added that the World Bank is a key partner in health programs, pointing out that the financial portfolio allocated by the bank for institutional support, primary health care, new hospitals,  and combating coronavirus is close to $1 billion.

"The World Bank is not only a financing bank but, rather an information and knowledge bank, and a technical supporter for a number of projects such as the new comprehensive health insurance system, in addition to supporting efforts to combat the coronavirus and other health projects in Egypt.
