The World Health Organization (WHO) has denounced Israel’s ongoing strikes on medical facilities and staff in Gaza, warning that the humanitarian and health situation in the besieged enclave has reached catastrophic levels.

Speaking to Alqahera News, Christian Lindmeier, spokesperson for the WHO, said that the health and humanitarian crisis in Gaza has escalated to “extremely dangerous levels,” with the territory facing not only famine but also a collapse in basic public health conditions.

“The current famine is not just about a lack of food,” Lindmeier said. “It is a complete system of deprivation — no clean water, widespread disease, and an environment ripe for infections. Emaciated bodies reveal the extent of the deterioration, often leading to amputations or even death from hunger.”

He warned that acute malnutrition among children will have long-term consequences, even if food becomes available later. “Whole generations of Gaza’s population will be directly affected by this crisis,” he stressed, calling the situation “not merely a blockade of food, but an attack on an entire people and an entire generation.”

Turning to the direct targeting of health services, Lindmeier denounced Israeli strikes on hospitals, ambulances, and medical teams as “horrific.” He underscored that such actions amount to grave violations of international law.

“The targeting of health facilities by the Israeli army must be classified as a war crime,” he said. “Doctors, paramedics, and even their homes should never be under threat.”

According to WHO figures, more than 7,500 attacks on health facilities have been recorded since the outbreak of the war, with nearly 900 medical personnel killed. Lindmeier said the numbers illustrate the scale of the humanitarian and health disaster facing Gaza’s population.
